ARE YOU FEELING LONELY?

Most people feel lonely sometimes, for many different reasons. If loneliness is affecting your life, there are things you can try that may help. According to a global survey, about 33 percent of adults experienced feeling of loneliness worldwide, most people experienced loneliness during covid pandemic lockdown.

Support is always available if you're finding it hard to cope with stress, anxiety or depression by speaking to your doctor immediately.

Causes of loneliness

Loneliness has many different causes and it can affect people of all ages.

It's often linked with things that could prevent you spending time with other people, such as:

  • Living or working alone

  • Retirement

  • illness or disability

  • Bereavement (losing someone or something)

  • moving to a new area, job, school or university

However, you do not have to be on your own all the time to feel lonely. Many people feel lonely in a relationship or while spending time with friends or family.

Other significant life events such as buying a house, having a baby or planning a wedding could also lead to feelings of loneliness. You might find it hard to explain to people why you feel this way, but talking to someone could help you find a solution. Loneliness can affect people at any age, but older people are especially vulnerable to social isolation.

LONELINESS IN OLDER PEOPLE

Older people are especially vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation – and it can have a serious effect on health. But there are ways to overcome loneliness, even if you live alone and find it hard to get out.

Hundreds of thousands of elderly people are lonely and cut off from society in this country, especially those over the age of 75.

According to Age UK, more than 2 million people in England over the age of 75 live alone, and more than a million older people say they go for over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member.

People can become socially isolated for a variety of reasons, such as getting older or weaker, no longer being the hub of their family, leaving the workplace, the deaths of spouses and friends, or through disability or illness.

Whatever the cause, it's shockingly easy to be left feeling alone and vulnerable, which can lead to depression and serious decline in physical health and wellbeing. someone who's lonely probably also finds it hard to reach out to other people.

Companionship care at home

We all know what loneliness can cause in our lives especially when families are far from home.  The truth is everybody needs somebody, especially as we get older and struggle with being alone or keeping on top of daily errands and tasks. Loneliness can be caused by so many things and is an increasing challenge within our elderly communities. Whether it be not being able to see loved ones as often as we’d like or finding it harder to adjust to life after the sudden loss of a spouse.

You can be assured that our carers will provide you with the companionship you need. Having someone to talk to, listen to music with, help with shopping or making appointments on time.

Companionship focuses on the social aspect of care rather than assisting with personal or medical needs. The carer will soon become a trusted and friendly part of your day.
